THANKSGIVING 2004
My best friend, Doug arrived Wednesday evening with his two terrific pups (Boji and Charley). In prep for their arrival, I had put on a crock pot of stew early that morning. By the time of their arrival, the aroma was enough to stimulate even the worst of appetites. This is not a problem for my arriving guests, as Doug and the pups have a voracious one!
We did get Doug's car fixed on Wednesday, but were unable to find the parts for his lawn mower that we were looking for.
Wednesday was a day of cooking for me. Casseroles and pies, things that can be prepared ahead of time, were the chores of the day. The turkey was being thawed and the cornbread for the stuffing had already been made. We did make several trips to the dock on each day of their visit. Only three photos are available via the following link. I hope you will take time to view them.

Thursday...Thanksgiving Day, the turkey was seasoned and stuffed with carrots, onions and celery. Once in the baking pan and covered with foil, into the oven she goes. About 5 hours later and after having been basted about every 30 minutes, she was ready to remove from the oven for a 5 minute rest before carving. After giving thanks for everything we have, we sat down for a meal of succulent turkey, corn bread stuffing, green beans, sweet potato souffle, and squash casserole. Did I mention the mashed potatoes and gravy? After eating our fill, we had a choice of pies for dessert...pumpkin, cherry, or blackberry...I opted for a small slice of each..
We managed a trip to Savannah to take in a movie. “The Incredibles” was not what we expected. It was clearly overrated and the voices (especially Holly Hunter) were annoying at best. The only one voice that could have been worse would have been Mary Steenburgens whiny, scratchy utterences. I would have had to leave!
Departure time is always a sad time for me. So early Sunday morning, after a good breakfast, the time has come to load up. After their departure, the quietness is deafening, and the fact that Boots and I are alone yet again washes over us. So, we're looking forward to continuing the Thanksgiving Tradition for the 3rd year in a row...and now there's even talk of Christmas together too!
