CHRISTMAS 2005 AND THE ZIPLOCK OMLETTE
Christmas, as prevoiusly posted, is my favorite time of the year. With the need for greed out of my system, along with the need to overextend myself financially eliminated, it is much easier to enjoy the festive season leading up to Christmas and the New Year! As it was necessary to visit stores, it was quite enjoyable to wish a Merry Christmas to others, especially those that insisted on a Happy Holidays greeting to me. Surprisingly enough, each were happy to hear Merry Christmas.
Guests aplenty at home this year, but everything edible was ready for consumption by 3pm Christmas day. Not to mention cookies, candies and pies prepared ahead of time and plenty of snacks to tide those with hearty appetites over until meal time. Everything went off well and it was a terrificly Merry Christmas for us all!
The next morning, for breakfast, I decided to try something new. Fortunately my good friend in Candada sent me a recipe for Ziplock Omlettes...I'm going to share it with you in a moment...that was fun, tasty and so easy to do with an even easier clean-up. It got everyone involved. All I had to do was prepare the ingredients (chopped/diced things like cheese, onions, green pepper, ham, mushrooms, tomatoes) and have salt and pepper available, wrote each persons name on their personalized ziplock bag and put on a large pot of water and brought it to a rolling boil. The rest of the omlette prep was up to each guest. I then sealed the bags, removing the excess air, and dropped it into the boiling water. 13 minutes later, I removed the bag, let the water drip off into the pot, opened the bag and inverted it over a plate...the omlette came rolling out onto the plate making the perfect omlette! Tasty too. Here's the recipe...try it, you'll love it..no oils needed and the taste is great!
Have you ever heard of this? (This works great! Good for when all yourfamily is together and no one has to wait for their special omelet)
Have guests write their name on a quart-size ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker. Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them.
Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, chopped green pepper, olives, mushrooms, pepperoni, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc. Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shakes it. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.
Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You can usually cook 6-8omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water. Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed! Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved inthe process and a great conversation piece!
New Year is just around the corner..and it's going to be a fantastic one! Hope you have a Terrific New Year too!
