31 August 2008

Feeling some of the effects of hurricane Gustav, I am concerned for those in the path of the storm. Hope that all the souls there have learned from the past and will take appropriate actions on their own to seek safety is not as absurd as it may sound. Complacency causes more harm than care!

With that in mind, I'm including photos to follow of 4 lives of primary importance to me. They have become a part of my family and their undying loyalty, affection and love is undeniable. I would never leave them behind! How could anyone be expected to do such a terrible and heartless deed.

They would never leave me!

Stay safe, take care and live!

August 8, 2008 Trip to Hilton Head Island, SC

We loaded up and headed out for Hilton Head Island, South Carolina at 10:00 a.m.
Armed with requested seafoods (shrimp and crab meat) off we went.

Rob was waiting for our arrival and we were greeted with open arms. The setting for this outing was Rob and Dan’s place in Bluffton. It is a beautiful, spacious, well appointed home with a terrific sun deck and pool that overlooks the tidal creek and marshes adjacent to the property. Low Country living at its best, for certain. The old moss laden oak trees add the ambiance of the old south while the sun deck and pool give into to the modern luxuries which we enjoy so much.

As it’s only 11 a.m. now, it seemed a appropriate for me to request a traditional bloody mary.....subsequently I took a bit of heat for the early hour! Ha! It’s five o’clock somewhere in the world right now..so let’s get with it! Besides, it is a special occasion and a bloody mary (mostly tomato juice) is a terrific breakfast/brunch beverage. Isn’t it??? It was quite tasty and hit just the right spot...so let’s have another!

The children wasted no time hitting the pool and within 10 minutes were frolicking around like a couple of fish! As long as there is a water puddle nearby, these children are 100% content.

Rajan was having a fit for bar-b-que ribs, so for lunch we headed for DOSYDOS for a wonderful lunch. En route to the house, we stopped for the remaining things we needed for the evening cookout. My personal favorite for an outdoor get-together is a Low Country Boil (Frogmore Stew to some) as it’s easy and feeds many with the least effort possible for a crowd. Rob did not have a large covered pot, so he left us to find one. In the meantime, the skewer ingredients were prepared...cut into cubes, seasoned and marinated. Shrimp, bratwurst, smoked sausage, chicken breast, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, onions and green peppers were chunked. Corn on the cob was cleaned and broken into two pieces.

Several more cocktails later (all of those present succumbed to the call) we began preparing the skewers for the grill and the water for the “boil”. In the end, all came together at the same time and the dinner bell rang out loudly...we all enjoyed the Low Country Boil, the deviled crab, and tasty varied brochettes and the raspberry trifle dessert.

Alas, it’s time to leave our friends and poolside to return to our own portion of the low country...a small cabin on the river in Georgia. It’s midnight now...we are all exhausted and fall into our respective beds and sleep through most of the morning...yikes it’s 10 a.m. again...up and at ‘em!

SEAFOOD NIGHT

Tonight was seafood night at a restaurant across the river. The Buccaneer Club has long been noted for HUGE seafood platters. The shrimp, fish, oysters and crabs are locally caught. But everything here is extremely good. The new building (the original burned down a few years ago) doesn't have the ambiance, character and charm of the older one, but the delicious food remains constant. In this area, the place is high on the places of "MUST" visit

These pictures showed before the meal....the meal...and of course the aftermath of eating way more than we needed!

August 4 2008 The British Are Here

The trip from Boynton today was not so bad. Traffic was very moderate with only exception being West Palm Beach. After that is was smooth cruising. Since the a.c. blower went out on my car, Storm and I had a hot trip, as well. Lots of water and frequent stops made it bearable...but barely.

Arrived around 3 this afternoon and after the customary hugs and hellos, the talk turned to dinner (go figure) and what time we would eat and what would we be eating. Turned out the children, yes two of them that are getting bigger every time I see them.. are having burgers...ah a coastal favorite on the grill outside..the adults (I use that term loosely) are having crab cakes (another coastal favorite in this house).

So, pre-dinner cocktails (cruzan rum and diet coke with a tad of lime)...one,two,three times let's eat...delicious to say the least.

Finally, the pics uploaded. Clicking on the pictures makes them bigger! Thanks for your patience.
